Joy, Tiffany and I are getting you some lute (supposed to be a surprise, but I am worried you’ll get two of things)
We already got you a moby wrap, so take it off of here.

I would suggest replacing the request with an ERGO carrier. They rock. It’s my fave for when they get older.

also, read the “no cry sleep solution” as SOON as the baby is born! Maybe even skim through it before he/she comes. (I have a strong feeling that it is a he, don’t know why. Didn’t you say you felt boy, too?)

Anyhow, I wish I had read it sooner. Being a nanny, the babies sleep schedules are all set up for you, you just follow the rents’ instructions. Being a mama, its ALL on you. Whew. Its pretty tricky! This book is a very gentle way for sleep training.

Also, get the book by Dr. Sears called “Attachment Parenting”
I know your pretty much focused on the big day…the birth! And that is all you can think about and read about, but take my advice and read up on a little parenting, I wish I did, instead of being so focused on the birth (its good to prepare for the birth, but we forget the the birth experience is one day and the parenting experience is EVERYDAY for the rest of our lives!!! Whew. :}

Good advice – I’m all over the attachment parenting thing, but hadn’t heard about no cry no sleep yet – thanks for the references!

4. Tammy Leathers, Emily's friend - August 20, 2009

Hi Julie, I am so late in finding you pregnant, (isn’t it great?) I have lots of baby stuff and nursing tops… I assume you already have infant car seat, however, I have 2 nice ones and if you need an extra I would be more than happy to bring one or both to you. Let me know, maybe Emily can call me as this is a busy time for you. I would love it if you need anything to let me know even if it is to talk about nursing (it hurt me for 3 weeks I thought I might have to stop, but I hung in there and then it didn’t hurt anymore, I nursed for 16 months.) I am sooo very happy and excited for you! Tammy

Thank you so much! I’ve been blessed with lots of hand-me downs, but I will keep you on my rolodex!

Viewing Your slide show I had only one concern. It was not the first birth I’ve seen, but it was the first in water : Was there ever any risk that Maya could inhale any water?

A detail I noticed [observing small details is what I do]:
At the end of the slides, Your face looks Younger.
& I mean younger than when I’ve seen You at Dandy, on TV with Margot, in photos, etc.

Namaste.

Hey Michael…. good observations – I was watching the slideshow again last night and noticed how much I looked like a little girl myself – I think it’s a combination of the pure joy that us adults lose the ability to express on a regular basis & my theory that giving birth takes us back to our own innocence, to be reborn along with our child as a mother. I joked my theory was accurate based on the fact I was wearing a diaper myself after the big event!

As for the inhalation of water – the baby is still attached to the cord at that point, which is providing all the oxygen she needs, as of course, she is not “breathing” in utero. The instinct to breath her first breath does not kick in until she touches air, after which point you definitely don’t want to let her go back into the water for that very reason.
